JNTUK – Revision of Course structure and Syllabus – B.Tech. / B.Pharmacy. R10 – Reg.

I am by the direction of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor inform you all that it is proposed to revise the course structure and syllabus of B.Tech. / B.Pharmacy for the coming Academic Year i.e., 2010-2011, R10 Regulations. It is proposed to introduce semester system in first Year also with first semester as a short semester. For B.Tech in the first semester it is proposed to have subjects 1) English 2) Physics 3) Chemistry 4) Mathematics 5) Professional Ethics 6) History of Science and Technology and Lab Subjects. L1) Physics Lab L2) Chemistry Lab L 3) Work Shop (Which are common to all Branches) with 18 to 20 Credits. Similarly for B. Pharmacy. From second semester onwards along with Mathematics, Computer Programming and Science subjects, Departmental core subjects can be introduced. From I Year II Semester to IV Year – I Semester there can be Six Theory subjects and Two Laboratories with 28 Credits. In the last semester (IV-II) only Project work or along with Project Work 2 Elective subjects may be there.

In order to avoid tensions among the students at the boarder of the class (i.e., 59 % - 60 % and 69% - 70%) it is also proposed to introduce absolute grading at the end of the course. There will be letter grades for each 5% variation of marks like 85-90-->S+; 80-85 -->S; 75-80 -->A+; 70-75--> A, and so on. It is proposed to introduce self study (Elective) courses and common Elective courses for all branches in higher semesters so that the student can opt for other branch subjects also if interested. In self study courses –> A group of subjects of common interest will be framed, among whom a student has to choose and prepare himself to appear for the End examinations. In the common Electives we may have subjects of different branches can be pooled and the student will have choice to select other department subjects also depending upon his/ her interest. It is also under consideration to dispense with supplementary examination in semester system so as to increase the Academic standards and improve the confidence of the students.

In the present system, some of the students are not preparing for one or two subjects in which they are not confident and preparing for the supplementary examinations. Request mails have received by Hon’ble Vice – Chancellor and other University authorities from students, requesting to conduct supplementary Examinations separately as they have dropped subjects in the regular examinations. This type of tendency will reduce the seriousness of the student in Regular Study. An alternative may be thought of for the genuine students who fails because of personal reasons like a special supplementary examinations during IV Year – II Semester for IV-I examination. The JNTU WORLD is request all the stakeholders – Students, parents, faculty and others to respond through post or mail so that a more conscious opinion can be evolved before implementation. The changes may be brought up in B.Pharmacy course in similar lines. Let us make our University students able to excel in their chosen fields .

DIRECTOR OF EVALUATION

Students of affiliated colleges of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) will now swipe their identity cards to mark their attendance. JNTU has advised the engineering colleges under its purview to give students biometric identity cards to record attendance.
JNTU authorities took this decision last week. It will be implemented from July. The university decided to introduce the new attendance system after the higher education department demanded a stricter attendance system.
The department had got complaints from parents that certain colleges were tampering with the attendance records of students. According to the parents, certain students were given full attendance while some were prevented from writing annual and semester exams due to attendance shortage.
“Once the attendance system is computerized the colleges will not be able to tamper with it. Students who get less than 65 per cent of attendance will not be allowed to write examinations,” said D N Reddy, vice chancellor, JNTU-H.He said that the attendance records would be maintained by the university till the students complete their course.
